Not that ladyfingers would've been better (a villanelle)

by Freemont Perot

Let me tell you of my woes
A mishap you would scarce believe
The dog ate mother's toes

This freak mistake that I disclose
No wonder that I'm left to grieve
Let me tell you of my woes

Why he did it no one knows
The thought of it just makes me heave
The dog ate mother's toes

He used to nibble on her clothes
Her shoes, her hemlines, and her sleeve
Let me tell you of my woes

But now I'll need to come to blows
With this pet I'd have to call a peeve
Let me tell you of my woes
The dog ate mother's toes
